ANTIGRAVITY
Aerial yoga and Pilates from Nina Scott Pilates
Antigravity classes are famous for their inversions. This is a super way to realign your spine with zero compression on your joints or spine. Hanging upside down releases tension and has many other physical and physiological benefits.
The silk antigravity hammocks will help you improve mobility and strength. It can be used to assist you and challenge you as you recreate some yoga or Pilates moves. You don't need to be a practitioner of these disciples to participate in these fun classes.
We swing in the hammock to hone our proprioception which can dull as we age. As we progress and start to flip, spin, invert, or dangle in the Antigravity hammock, our body moves in new ways in three dimensional space.
By moving in novel ways we create new synaptic connections and neural pathways keeping the brain young.
There is always time at the end of class to rest in the hammock. Rest is essential for health and life can be so fast paced it's important to take moments to recharge. The hammock facilitates rest through gentle rocking and cradling you. While we feel held the body and mind can recalibrate.
There are so many benefits to doing an Antigravity class. Come and experience it for yourself.
The following FAQ information is taken from the ANTIGRAVITY website:
Q: What should I wear?
A: We recommend wearing items that cover the armpits as the fabric can cause discomfort in that area. Cotton or cotton blend fabric is best (non-slippery). Remember, you will be upside down, so sports bra for females and shorts that are not too loose for guys. If wearing leggings make certain they are opaque (non-see through). If wearing sweats, tight around cuff of legs is best. No socks (unless they are sticky). You may need sticky gloves if you have weak grip. PLEASE NO JEWELLERY.
Q: What should I bring?
A: Water or water bottle, sweat towel, and an open mind!
Q: Do I need to be a yoga practitioner?
A: No.
Q: Do I need to be physically fit?
A: Not necessarily. AG Fitness is easier than regular yoga because the AntiGravity Hammock supports you in your poses. However, AG Fitness is easiest for someone who maintains a consistent fitness regimen and has a strong core.
Q: I practice yoga regularly and am pretty fit. Do I have to take a Fundamentals Class?
A: Fundamentals is less about fitness level and more an introduction to a new experience. In a Fundamentals class one learns the basic wraps, grips and traps, the basis of the practice, while becoming familiar with the hammock and inversions. Being upside down is also a new sensation and sometimes it takes a few times to get used to the feeling no matter how fit you are.
Q: Are you sure the AntiGravity® Hammock will hold me?
A: Every portion of the Harrison AntiGravity® Hammock is rated for well over 2000 lbs. (9 Kn)(908kgs).
